In 2010, Westside completed a transition from explorer to producer by acquiring a 51% operating interest in the Meridian Gas Fields from existing owners, Anglo American (Anglo) and Mitsui Moura Investment Pty Ltd (MMI).
The Meridian Gas Fields date back to 1991 (originally operated by Mount Isa Mines). Westside continues to operate the Meridian Gas Fields with our joint venture partner, Mitsui E&P Australia Pty Ltd (Mitsui).
With the acquisition taking place in 2010, Westside recently achieved its 10-year milestone as operator of Meridian.
Westside’s CEO Matt Wallach said this milestone could not have been achieved without their valued joint venture partner Mitsui.
“I’d like to thank everyone who contributed to our success over this time, particularly Mitsui for partnering with us and continuing to work with us to position the field for future growth.
“Achieving this milestone demonstrates our nimbleness, resilience and ability to adapt.
“There are many explorers in our industry, but very few make it to “operator” so this is a very important milestone for us” he said.
Westside has built a reputation as a low-cost producer and recently expanded its production in Queensland with its approval of Petroleum Lease (PL1048) on acreage it had previously been exploring.
